Clean the Bay Day
Each year, on the first Saturday of June, thousands of Virginians simultaneously descend on the rivers, streams, beaches, and inland parks of the Chesapeake Bay watershed to remove harmful litter and debris. Clean the Bay Day has been a staple for Virginia's Chesapeake Bay community since its inception more than three decades ago. See our interactive map for a look at the impact it's had over the years. A true Virginian tradition, it is an annual opportunity for individuals, families, military installations, businesses, clubs, civic and church groups to give back to their local waterways. Visit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s website for more information.

Earth Day Celebration
Celebrate Earth Day with us at a fun and interactive Build and Paint Community Event! This is the perfect opportunity for families to get involved in meaningful activities, learn about protecting our waterways, and support a cleaner environment.
What to Expect
Volunteer Activities: Help build and paint “beach toy libraries”—unique recycling boxes placed at high-traffic beach locations.
Explore and Learn: Meet organizations like Clean Virginia Waterways, VB Surf and Rescue Museum and Lynnhaven River NOW. Discover how they're working to reduce marine debris and how you can make a difference!
Tree Giveaways: Take home a tree for your yard and contribute to a greener future.
Beach Cleanup Kits: Gather supplies to conduct your own sunset beach cleanup with your family on Earth Day.
This event will take place on the lawn of the Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum, right on the boardwalk, offering a beautiful setting for community connection and environmental action.
Sponsorship Opportunity for Businesses
Take part in this positive community effort by sponsoring a beach toy recycling box (or three)! Your logo and business name will be displayed on a metal sign attached to the boxes. You can paint your own box or collaborate with CVW and Lynnhaven River NOW to have local students paint it for you.
Options for sponsorship include $250 for one box or $500 for three boxes.
Support your community and showcase your commitment to the environment with this sponsorship opportunity!
